Puria Pezeshki
Puria Pezeshki is an Iranian Canadian journalist and sociologist. He is interested in global apartheid and its methods of functioning, which was the subject of his thesis for his Sociology and Psychology degree. He seeks to examine this system through journalism, with a particular focus on migration and politically independent social movements. Fluent in Farsi and English, his work focuses on political repression, labour struggles, youth movements and grassroots resistance across the Middle East, the Balkans, Latin America and the wider Global South. Through Solidarity Reports, an independent documentary project, he documents underreported social movements through local reporting, academic research, open source investigation, verification and first hand accounts. His work combines academic research with journalism to examine movements that are often overlooked, simplified or misrepresented in international media, funnelling this research and reporting into accessible videos and articles.
