We are reporting from stolen land

Spheres of Influence was created and is largely based in what is commonly called “Vancouver, British Columbia.” This land, like the entirety of North America, was unjustly stolen from the Indigenous peoples who call it home.

“Vancouver” is situated on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō, and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

As settlers, we recognize the immense privilege it is to inhabit this land. We also acknowledge that we hold a lot of responsibility to constantly educate our readers and urge them to learn about the past and take proactive steps towards true reconciliation.

Indigenous news sites we love

Indigenous voices have been generally excluded from the mainstream news, which too often perpetuates harmful stereotypes and glosses over Canada’s dark history and present. However, there are many incredible journalistic platforms run by Indigenous journalists that we highly encourage you to check out and support.
